βOne could say that our struggle is not to help students do the homework assigned by a racist teacher, but rather to drive out the racist teacher.β
-Claude
Claude participated in the leadership of two organizations. This participant points out that the majority of Black-led organizations are involved in education in one way or another, even this was not part of the organization's initial objective. The BCSEs in Montreal almost always end up offering educational services, as it is the easiest area to fund. Claude notes that, unfortunately, organizations may be forced to prioritize superficial programs, such as homework assistance in order to obtain the funding necessary to survive. Claude explains that Black organizations often receive less funding than others to offer similar services. According to him, this encourages the proliferation of organizations but limits their growth and influence. Claude believes that these results are what the government wants. Claude asserts that schools should be involved in the local community, engaging community members as much as possible, and adapting the curriculum to the needs of their particular communities.
