“BCSEs are not here to fix failures through summer school, we are here to work all year round and push for radical change at the policy level.“

-Lloyd

Lloyd spent several decades as a community organizer and was involved in a number of educational initiatives. In his interview, Lloyd refers to “the perceptions of white people” as a source of the challenges faced by Black students. He connects these perceptions to the history of slavery in Canada, as well as political developments in Quebec, such as the Quiet Revolution and the passing of Bill 101. Lloyd felt that some educational initiatives of BCSEs were limited to offering remedial homework help; he advocated for increased community engagement and political organization to fight for policy changes.
