Marco is a member of a BCSE established to address inequity in access to higher education, an issue that was highlighted by the Sir George Williams affair. Marco’s BCSE was established during a period when increasing numbers of Caribbean educators were starting to be employed by the school system.  However, since many of those teachers have retired, it is difficult to find like-minded educators to replace them. The objective of Marco’s BCSE is to instill pride in the students and to create a curriculum that would teach them about the context that they live in. For Marco, getting involved in “politics” at the administrative level is like doing necessary “dirty work” to ensure that the community receives the support it deserves.
